OpenSpirit Contributes to the Energistics Open Standards Community HOUSTON, TX – August 15, 2007 – OpenSpirit Corporation has furthered its involvement with the Energistics upstream open-standards consortium with the donation of two of its universally applicable intellectual properties. The donated OpenSpirit Units Catalog and OpenSpirit Data Model will be available and downloadable as open standards through the Energistics website in the near future. OpenSpirit and Energistics are also identifying areas of cooperation that can be jointly carried out to ensure that the two organizations can make best use of each other’s strengths for the benefit of the upstream oil and natural gas industry as a whole. OpenSpirit recognizes that the energy industry’s evolution to a true open-standards business model is dependent up on sharing – not duplicating – R&D efforts. OpenSpirit has spent seven years refining the data model and units catalog, which represent a true best-practices portfolio of open-standards development. “We support the mission of Energistics as they become the standards maintenance body for the oil and gas world,” said Dan Piette, President and CEO of OpenSpirit. “By sharing the work we have painstakingly assembled, we believe that it will become an even more valuable and powerful tool for everyone in the industry.” Both the OpenSpirit Units Catalog and the OpenSpirit Data Model will become part of the Energistics Energy Standards Resource Centre (ESRC) where the industry will be able to query and research available open standards.
