OpenSpirit Announces Release of OpenSpirit Web Server for
Fast, Browser-Based Data Viewing STAFFORD,
TX – July 13, 2007 – E&P professionals have a new way to interact with
their geotechnical data and applications with the release of the OpenSpirit
Web Server. The Web Server helps both casual and experienced users quickly
navigate, select and view all OpenSpirit-enabled data. This includes viewing
E&P data in the context of publicly available map data via 3D browsing
tools, such as Google Earth™, ESRI® ArcGIS® Explorer and NASA World Wind. The
OpenSpirit Web Server is a simple, lightweight browsing tool that harnesses
the power of Web 2.0 technology to allow users to see basic well, seismic,
interpretation and culture data at the project level without initiating
application licenses. The “casual browser experience” is great for executives
and G&G managers who need a quick spatial view of their areas of
interest. “Power users” can glance at relevant project data and if desired,
broadcast selected data to the OpenSpirit-enabled applications on their
desktop. Data can be accessed from any data store with an OpenSpirit Data
Connector. This currently includes OpenWorks®, GeoFrame®, Finder®, PPDM, KINGDOM,
Petra®, Recall, and
ArcSDETM. Data may be
viewed in table form or as simple graphical plots within the Web browser or
imported into Excel® or OpenOffice with
a single button click. “Even
if the user does not have OpenSpirit installed on their desktop, they can
still get a global view of the latest information, and have the ability to
browse data in a table format or best of all, get a spatial view of G&G
data by overlaying true-life 3D raster imagery from a Geographic Exploration
System,” says Clay Harter, Chief Technology Officer of OpenSpirit. “For
experienced OpenSpirit users, it is the fastest way to browse project data,
and then jump right into the business of interpretation by broadcasting
selected G&G data straight into their OpenSpirit-enabled applications.” The
Web Server operates behind IT firewalls and satisfies a developer’s desire
for a Web service that accesses a subset of their existing OpenSpirit
framework. They can also integrate it with their existing portals and Web applications
for maximum flexibility, allowing end users to access the Web services via
http to see lists of data store types, installations and projects, as well as
query for OpenSpirit data type attributes and return the kml (Keyhole Mark-up
Language) needed to display points, polylines and polygon geometry of well,
seismic and GIS features. “Most
of us think of Geographic Information Systems simply as a way to chart
driving directions or zoom over satellite images of landmarks,” says Dan
Piette, President & CEO of OpenSpirit. “But there is enormous potential
in the E&P industry to help knowledge workers more naturally interact
with their data and geotechnical applications. The Web Server is all about
improving efficiency and making faster decisions.” About OpenSpirit The
