E&P companies need more professionals to get the job done. OpenSpirit
integrates upstream applications and data stores, improving the efficiency
and productivity of geoscientists, geotechnical specialists and database
managers and enabling senior managers to make better decisions while
reducing costs.
The OpenSpirit Corporation, based in Sugar Land, Texas, began operations
in July 2000 as an independent software company focused on providing
integration solutions for upstream applications and data. The OpenSpirit
application integration framework allows interoperability between multiple
vendors' applications and data, enabling oil company end users to speed
up critical work flows and enhance analysis in the geotechnical space.
Infinite Integration
OpenSpirit is an application and data integration framework that gives
applications and data stores the flexibility and power to create, read,
update and delete data from diverse projects, anywhere within a client's
network. Clients have experienced improved productivity, better decision
making and lower costs using OpenSpirit to integrate their upstream
applications and data stores. OpenSpirit clients have recorded workflow
efficiency improvements as high as 99% when importing seismic, interpretation
and well data. Accelerated data transfer rates averaging 811% have also
been reported.
How OpenSpirit Began
Development of the OpenSpirit Application Framework began in 1997 as
a project funded by the OpenSpirit Alliance, a consortium comprised
of oil companies and software vendors seeking to address inefficiencies
and high costs related to the poor integration capabilities of E&P applications
and their related data stores.
With research and development funded by consortium members, a multidisciplinary
team of technologists delivered a prototype of an application integration
framework in 1999. While it was met with great support among consortium
members and the E&P community as a whole, it became apparent that to
best serve the industry, it would need to be offered by a commercial
entity responsive to market needs. OpenSpirit started operations as
an independent software company in 2000.
The Future
OpenSpirit partners with many of the finest E&P solution providers in
the world, and 30+ software vendors have licensed the OpenSpirit Developer
Kit to provide integration of 40+ applications and 12 databases. It
frees software companies from worrying about how to get at the data
and allows them to do what they do best: provide technology that helps
oil companies make money by finding oil and gas more efficiently. With
no comparable competitive product on the market, OpenSpirit will continue
its growth and remain the data integration standard in the upstream
market segment.
