Tony Bowman
President, Schlumberger Information Solutions

Tony Bowman has a Degree in Geophysics from University of Queensland. He joined Schlumberger in 1991 as a Geophysicist and held various technical positions in Australia and Indonesia. In 1996, he was appointed as an Account Manager for SIS Indonesia and became Sales Manager in 1998. He then became Operations Manager SIS Australia, New Zealand, PNG in 1999 and moved to Nigeria as SIS Operations Manager in 2000.

Bowman was then promoted as Vice President SIS for Europe, Africa and CIS in 2002. In 2004, he was appointed as General Manager, Schlumberger Oilfield Services Australia, New Zealand & PNG. He came back to SIS in September 2007 as Vice President Products & Solutions, and became SIS President in May, 2008.



James A. Calaway
President, Calaway Interests

James Calaway is President and CEO of Calaway Interests, LLC, a private investment and development company. Prior to launching Calaway Interests, he served as CEO of the Center for Houston’s Future.

A successful entrepreneur, Calaway has played an instrumental role in the development of a variety of private and public companies, including Network International, Inc., Datacert, Inc, C-Sixty, Inc., Edge Petroleum Corp., Forefront Group, Inc., and Space Industries International, Inc.

Calaway currently serves on several civic boards, including membership on the Council of Overseers of The Jones School of Management at Rice University, Chairman of the Houston Independent School District Foundation, and the Board of directors of YES Prep Public Schools, Interfaith Ministries and the Harris County Mental Health Association.

His other corporate board memberships include Network International Inc., Datacert, Inc. and We Are Teachers LLC. He earned a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Texas and a master's degree from Oxford University.



John Hanten
Venture Executive, ChevronTexaco Technology Ventures, LLC.

John Hanten is currently a Venture Executive with ChevronTechnology Ventures. He is responsible for identifying and executing venture capital investments in companies that have technology beneficial to Chevron, and assisting in the introduction and deployment of the technology.

Hanten has over 25 years of industry experience in varied areas including geophysical research, application development, technical services management, strategic planning, operational management, eBusiness development, and venture investing.

He served as a board member and Chairman of POSC, and currently is a board observer for nine portfolio companies including Artificial Muscle, Axonn, BlueArc, MetaCarta, OpenSpirit, Radiance, SchemaLogic, and TradeCapture. Hanten has an M.S. in Geophysics from Purdue University (Phi Kappa Phi), and an MBA from St. Mary’s College.

Chevron Technology Ventures, a subsidiary of Chevron Corporation, identifies, develops and commercializes emerging technologies and new energy systems including hydrogen-related technologies, advanced energy storage technologies, renewable energy and nanotechnology.



Dan Piette
Chief Executive Officer, OpenSpirit

Dan Piette received a BS in Mining Engineering with Honors from the University of Wisconsin - Madison in 1980. He worked for Exxon Minerals following graduation, and then joined David P. Cook and Associates, a software company serving the oil and gas industry, in 1982. In 1986, he joined Terra-Mar Resource Information Services as Vice President of Geosciences. Terra-Mar was a start-up software company focusing on technical computing in the energy and minerals industry.

Piette was recruited to Landmark Graphics in 1989, and worked in a number of different capacities in that company, lastly as Vice President and General Manager of the Asia Pacific region, based in Singapore. In 1996, he joined Bell Geospace, a venture funded start-up that used military technology to collect gravity gradient data for natural resource exploration, as VP of Sales and Marketing. He was appointed President and CEO in 1999. In this role, he successfully accomplished the restructuring of the company in 2000. Most recently, Piette was a Business Unit Manager at Input/Output, running the Land Data Acquisition Systems group.

Additionally, he currently serves on the Board of Directors of Petroleum Geo-Services, a geophysical acquisition company.



Eldad Weiss
Founder and Vice Chairman, Paradigm, Ltd.

Eldad Weiss is founder and Vice-Chairman of Paradigm, and served as its Chief Executive Officer for 18 years, following its inception in 1988. Paradigm, a Cayman Islands-based oilfield exploration and production software technology company, has an annual turnover of $200M.  Under Weiss's leadership, Paradigm has grown from a small boutique technology player into a full-solution powerhouse, serving all the major oil and gas producing provinces in the world.

He led Paradigm through ten strategic acquisitions as well as several financing rounds, including a NASDAQ IPO, a $100 million Going Private transaction with Fox Paine, and subsequent debt facility arrangements from the Bank of Scotland.

Previously, Weiss served as Senior Vice-President of Grant-Tensor Geophysical Corporation, a Houston-based oilfield services company (today a division of Geokinetics Inc. - GOK ), where he headed its geoscience software division.  From 2003 until February 2007, he served as board member at Energistics, a global membership-sponsored consortium for the development of upstream oil and gas standards. As of January 2010, he is also a member of the Board of Directors of OpenSpirit, a Houston-based oil and gas data interoperability middleware provider.

Weiss is co-founder and Vice-Chairman of Basilica Estate Development, a Cyprus-based real estate developer specializing in high-grade building projects in central Moscow and has led the company through rapid expansion, resulting in over 60,000 m2 of prime assets under development, funded through two rounds of equity investment totaling $47 million, and subsequent construction facility arrangements from the Bank of Austria.

As a business leader and industry visionary, he articles and interviews are frequently published in trade magazines and the business press, and he has served as keynote speaker at industry events. In 2002, Weiss was awarded the prestigious E&Y Entrepreneur of the Year award for the high-tech segment. He holds a Bachelors and Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering.



Herbert Yuan
IT & IM Manager, Shell International EP

Herbert Yuan is Manager of IT & IM for Shell International Exploration and Production (SIEP), which is the head office organization for Shell’s E&P Business. The main focus areas for the SIEP IT & IM organization are High Performance Computing, Software Practice and Information Management.

Yuan has been at Shell for 31 years, beginning his career in petrophysics research. He has spent the first half of his Shell career in various research and EP operations capacities. Since 1993, he has had a number of head office roles such as initiating the Shell Gamechanger process in 1997, as head of Portfolio Management & Integration from 2001 to 2003, which delivered a standardized EP Applications Portfolio to the Shell EP business, as well as Vice President for Capabilities and Integration within the EP R&D Organization of Shell International EP from 2003 to 2005. He assumed his current role in late 2005.

Yuan's board memberships include OpenSpirit Corporation, the IT Section of the Society of Petroleum Engineers, as well as the Herman Park Conservancy in Houston. He served on the Board of POSC (later renamed Energistics), where he served as Chairman of the Board from 2003-2005. Yuan received his PhD in Chemical Physics from MIT.
