WE HAVE A THREE REDUNDANT LICENSE SERVERS, BUT WHEN I TRY TO START UP THE SHARED SERVICES THE LICENSE WON'T START. COULD IT BE A PROBLEM WITH THE LICENSE.PROPERTIES FILE?

You need to enter all three hosts in the OSP_HOME/classes/License.properties file. (v2.9.x only)

For v3.x you need to enter the hosts in the License Admin Tool found in the OpenSpirit Desktop.

The format is "port@host:port@host:port@host" - The separator is a colon.

WE HAVE THE THREE REDUNDANT LICENSE SERVERS, BUT WHEN I TRY TO RUN AN OPENSPIRIT APPLICATION FROM THE OSP CLIENT (WINDOWS), I GET AN ERROR. (CANNOT CHECK OUT OPENSPIRIT LICENSE FOR FEATURE *XXX* AND AN *INVALID LICENSE KEY (INCONSISTENT LICENSE KEY) (-8,XXX) ERROR IN MY DOS WINDOW

There is an inconsistency between the FlexLM versions on the OSP server and the client. This only happens when a 3 license redundant server is employed.

The workaround is to copy the flexlm.jar file from the server ($OSP_HOME/external/flexlm/flexlm.jar) to the PC client
(C:Program FilesOpenSpiritexternalflexlm).

HOW CAN I TELL IF I HAVE A TEMPORARY LICENSE?

In general all temporary licenses have both the version and expiration date the same. For example, the feature line below shows that the version 200906.30 is the same as 30-jun-2009, so, this is a temporary license.

FEATURE OspRuntime osp 200906.30 30-jun-2009 29 3E43575F8305
DUP_GROUP=U ck=118 SIGN="0300 D156 C64C 838B 8DF7 46EA A720

WHAT VERSION OF OPENSPIRIT WILL MY CURRENT LICENSE WORK WITH?

The easiest way to tell is by looking at the version number on the FEATURE line.

Note the version number is in the form of a date 200812.31 (December 31st 2008). If the date represented by the version number is later than the release date of the OpenSpirit software, then that license file will support that version of OpenSpirit. None of the OpenSpirit software released in 2009 will work with a license with this date in it.

  • v3.2.0 released December 15, 2009
  • v3.1.5 released July 13, 2009
  • v3.1.4 released May 14, 2009
  • v3.1.3 released Feburary 23, 2009
  • v3.1.2 released July 1, 2008
  • v3.1.1 released May 19, 2008
  • v3.1.0 released January 31, 2008
  • v3.0.2 released Octoper 19, 2007
  • v2.9.4 released Jun 4, 2007

WHERE CAN I FIND THE OPENSPIRIT DAEMON AND THE FLEXLM DAEMON?

You can download the OpenSpirit daemon bundled with the FlexLM daemon and FlexLM utilities at the links bellow. Be sure do download the right daemon for the right operating system and version of OpenSpirit.

Linux-daemon-for-OSPv2.9.x   (FlexLM v9.5)

Solaris-daemon-for-OSPv2.9.x   (FlexLM v9.5)

Linux-daemon-for-OSPv3.x   (FlexLM v11.5)

Solaris-daemon-for-OSPv3.x   (FlexLM v11.5)

Windows-daemon-for-OSPv3.x   (FlexLM v11.5)

WHY AM I GETTING A LICENSE *CHECK OUT FAILED* MESSAGE WHEN I TRY TO RUN AN APPLICATION?

Dialog comes up along the lines of:

Check out failed. Retried 0 times.
Return code = -14
Cannot find SERVER hostname in network database(-14,400)
License check out failed after retried 1 times.
    feature=OSPDataSelector
    version=20010.26

policy= 1
    path= 27001@test.openspirit.com
The last return code = -14

It looks like you are having problems resolving the machine name.

See if you can ping the machine you are trying to connect to; in this case it would be "test.openspirit.com".  If not, try to ping the IP address.  If neither of these work, try running "ipconfig /renew"  from the command window and then try the above.

WHY DOES MY v3.x LICENSE FILE DIFFER FROM MY OLD v2.x LICENSE FILE?

For v3.x we reconciled and renamed our license features to make them more understandable.  A mapping grid between v2 and v3 license features can be found here.

WHY IN MY v2.9 LICENSE FILE SOME FEATURES HAD A COUNT OF 99, BUT NOT IN MY v3.x LICENSE FILE?

Both license files have the exact same features in them. The features that you see in the file with quantities of 99 are standard features that are included in every 2.X license file. This has no bearing on how many users can access OpenSpirit and have been eliminated or reconciled in v3.x.

To know how many people can run OpenSpirit concurrently in OpenSpirit v2.x you need to look at how many UserServer features there are in the license file.  To know how many people can run OpenSpirit concurrently in OpenSpirit v3.x you need to look at how many OspRuntime features there are in the license file.
