Petrel - I am using Petrel 2003SE

You need to set both Petrel and OpenSpirit to only send and listen
for data selection events. In Petrel, under the OpenSpirit Setting Dialog
select Listen to Data Selection Events only. In the OpenSpirit
DataSelector, under the DataSelector Preference dialog set the Send
Events to Data Selection events.
Petrel - I am running Petrel 2003SE
with OpenSpirit v2.7 and it is not working what is the problem?
To get the OpenSpirit / Petrel link working you need to install a patch
in your Petrel installation. Do the following to do this:
-
- Shutdown Petrel
- Unzip the OPS27_Petrel2003SE_patch.zip file into you Petrel top level
directory
(e.g. C:\Program Files\Schlumberger\Petrel 2003SE)
- Re-start Petrel

The GeoFrame catalog controls the codes of log curves. GeoFrame will
not allow creating a log curve if the code is unknown to the catalog.
When creating log curves in GeoFrame, the OpenSpirit GeoFrame well server
creates a log curve with code of 'SHAPE_1D' if:
-
The input code is not known to the GeoFrame
catalog. (e.g. code = FOO)
- The units input with the data are incompatible with the input code.
(e.g. code GR with units of FT)
OpenSpirit then tries to record the actual input by putting the traceKind
(code) and the units in the remarks field of the well log.
Interactive Petrophysics - I have
updated my IP installation and I still can not connect to OpenSpirit
via IP, what is wrong?
.THIS IS JUST FOR OSP v2.5.x and IP 3.0
You need to check to see if the two files msvcr70.dll and msvcp70.dll
are in the folder C:\WINNT\system32 (or C:\WINDOWS\system32 for XP).
These two files are runtime libraries used by the .NET framework and
must be in the system path. The two files can be found in the .NET framework
1.0 directory (C:\WINNT\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.0.3705). Either this
directory must be on the system path or the two DLLs must be copied
to C:\WINNT\system32 which is by default on the system path. This is
a common problem for very many applications using .NET Framework 1.0.
After performing the above, uninstall and reinstall the OpenSpirit
.NET package to have the registration done correctly:
-
Remove the osp.NET installation using
Add/Remove Program in the Control Panel.
- Run the setup.exe program located in %OSP_HOME%\external\osp.NET
Gocad Plug-in - When I send
logs or well pick from OpenWorks to Gocad they do not show up and I
get the error message:
exception caught in OspUtil::doConvert(float): osp_UserException:

This is a know issue in Gocad (all versions) when using OpenSpirit
v2.8 or greater. As a workaround do the following in each Gocad installation:
-
Go to ...\EarthDecision\<version>\Gocad\lib\app-defaults
-
open file GoCAD with a text editor.
-
Find the following line: ft = 0.3048 m;\
And add this line below it:
ftUS = 0.30480061 m;\
Kingdom - I cannot copy
Kingdom (v7.6, build 4900.27, Sep 16, 2005) well tops using OpenSpirit's
v2.8.x CopySync tool.
OpenSpirit 2.8.0 was released before the final release of Kingdom
7.6. You need to replace the OpenSpirit osp_Kingdom_76.dll with the
version of the dll created for Kingdom (v7.6, build 4900.27, Sep 16,
2005). Please note that OpenSpirit 2.8.x is certified for Kingdom
v7.6, build 4000.27 only.
Instructions to update the OpenSpirit 2.8.0 Kingdom dll:
Note: must be done on every PC running the OpenSpirit v2.8 client:
-
Exit out of OpenSpirit on the PC you
are going to patch and select the third option to shut down the user
server and all data servers.
-
-
Navigate to the OpenSpirit PC installation
directory, bin subdirectory (usually C:\Program Files\OpenSpirit\bin)
and rename the osp_Kingdom_76.dll to something like osp_Kingdom_76.dll.old.
-
Copy the new osp_Kingdom_76.dll to the
OpenSpirit installation directory, bin subdirectory
(usually C:\Program Files\OpenSpirit\bin).
ArcMap - I cannot get my items
from the OpenSpirit Scan Utility to line up properly, or they are slightly
shifted when I send a GIS selection event to an application like Petrel.
How do I get everything to line up?
When using shape files or SDE layers output in WGS84 from OpenSpirit
2.9.1, and earlier ScanUtility, you must take special care when adding
these to an ArcMap project. The OpenSpirit WGS84 Coordinate System uses
an inverse flattening of 298.257222932867 while an ESRI WGS84 uses an
inverse flattening of 298.257223563. This results in a positional shift
of 4 cm or less. However, ArcMap will not automatically recognize the
datum as WGS84 when applying datum transformations, therefore, a custom
datum transformation must be created when these shape files are added
to ArcMap if the map display datum is not WGS84. You must define the shift
parameters in the ArcMap Layer's Geographic Coordinate System Transformations
to convert from GCS_WGS1984, into your Data Frame's coordinate system
datum. In order to find the appropriate datum shift parameters you can
find the predefined datum transformation in ArcMap between your map display
datum and WGS84 and use the same shift parameters. Please note, however,
that the ESRI datum shift is defined to shift the datum to WGS84. As the
custom transformation that you need to define shifts from WGS84 you must
negate any translation and rotation parameters.
The Word document Datum_transformations_in_ArcMap.doc
provides step by illustrated step instructions on how to set up the transformations.
ArcMap - When I import cultures files
(polygons for state, county, blocks, etc) from ArcMap to Petrel Using OpenSpirit.
I am able to bring the culture but not the names. How do I bring the names?
1. Using ArcView, right mouse click on the desired layer.
2. Select Properties.
3. Click on the Fields Tab.
4. Select the desired field from the Primary Display Field combo box to use as the label.
5. Resend the GIS features to Petrel.
